What do you think of when you hear the word renounce? How do you feel?
Jesus, in today's Gospel, tells us to renounce everything and follow Him. Is He saying that owning things is bad? No, not quite. It is the attitude we have towards those things. And it's not always just physical, tangible things either. These things can be pride, ego, vanity, etc.
So what's the point in renouncing my pride (And I can be VERY proud!)?
One, my relationship with God is everything. When I put "other stuff" whether good or bad, before Him... My life always becomes very stressful and hollow- quickly. Only God can fill the God-sized hole in our hearts. And He does!
Two, my relationships with others is everything. As human beings with a fallen, sinful nature, we tend to be very self-centered. We like to do what is good for US. But that is a very sad life. I use to be totally onboard with that lifestyle: until I saw what a Christian life was all about. Sure it had its painful, tiring moments. But those were always outweighed by the benefits! What is the benefit of being a Christian? Seeing others grow on and in their faith journey with God is so cool and incredible to witness. I pray for for everyone I know, have met, and will meet one day. I really love people (even when they are difficult and unloving).
Leave something behind today. RENOUNCE something that is slowing you down from running this race of joy! Miracles lie ahead! God bless you ✝✝✝
