Today’s Gospel is short but sweet for the soul. It is Luke 8: 19-21:
The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
“My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.” Word.
It is so easy for us to hear God’s word, then become caught up in other things and forget that we need to act! I am uncertain of the origin of this quote but I have heard people say, “your life may be the only Bible some people ever read.” How true is that? There is nothing more powerful than our example.
As we go about our days, let us be extra aware of our actions. Allow that car to go in front of you. Take a minute to say, “hello” to someone next to you in line at the grocery store. Give a phone call or email to a friend you’ve lost contact with or that needs to be reached out to. Go out into the world today, and every day as God’s hands and feet!!
