What do you think of when you hear the word renounce? How do you feel?
Jesus, in today's Gospel, tells us to renounce everything and follow Him. Is He saying that owning things is bad? No, not quite. It is the attitude we have towards those things. And it's not always just physical, tangible things either. These things can be pride, ego, vanity, etc.
So what's the point in renouncing my pride (And I can be VERY proud!)?
One, my relationship with God is everything. When I put "other stuff" whether good or bad, before Him......
Today’s Gospel (Luke 19:11-28), is the parable of the three servants who were given gold coins. Two out of the three servants did great things with the money. They took action and as result were very successful! What happened to our friend, the third servant?
Fear paralyzed him. It gripped him so tight that he literally could not move. So he didn’t. God gave him an opportunity to really shine- and he blew it.
What are you fearful of today? What is holding you back from pursuing your dreams?
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say,
‘Give your place to this man,’
and then you would proce...

Brothers and sisters:
If God is for us, who can be against us?
He did not spare his own Son
but handed him over for us all,
how will he not also give us everything else along with him?
Who will bring a charge against God’s chosen ones?
It is God who acquits us.
Who will condemn?
It is Christ Jesus who died, rather, was raised,
who also is at the right hand of God,
who indeed intercedes for us.
What will separate us from the love of Christ?
Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine,
or nakedness, or peril, or the...
Have you ever experienced one of those cool occurrences where you read exactly what you needed to hear at the present moment? That is what happened to me today when I read the first daily reading from Romans:
Brothers and sisters:
I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing
compared with the glory to be revealed for us.
For creation awaits with eager expectation
the revelation of the children of God;
for creation was made subject to futility,
not of its own accord but because of the one who subje...
